THE JEWISH MUSEUM OF MARYLAND
DEVELOPMENT INTERN
The Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM), is seeking, for the first time, a Development Intern. During these challenging economic times, the Museum is making strides in strengthening its base of financial support, and the Development Intern will work on projects that are integral to this process. This is not a “sales” position, but rather a chance to see how an institution goes about the work of raising money, as well as to organize and execute key development initiatives.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
The JMM is America’s largest museum of regional Jewish culture. It is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and studying the history, traditions, and culture of Jewish life in Maryland in order to interpret and communicate and develop understanding of the American Jewish experience.
As the JMM is a mid-sized Museum, the Development Intern will be able to get a sense of the full range of the Museum’s operations through interaction with staff and interns throughout the organization, including top management. The Development Intern will report directly to the Museum’s Development Officer.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate (any year) or graduate student with an interest in business or the business aspects of the arts
- Familiarity with databases
- Knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Detail-minded and able to follow established procedures while looking for improvements
Although an understanding of Jewish history and culture is welcomed, it is not required.
DUTIES EXPECTED:
Projects will vary depending on the strengths and interests of the Development Intern, but are likely to include some of the following: Prospect research, database updates, grants management, events, mailings, marketing, membership, operations, and donor communications. Development-related administrative duties will also be included.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:
The JMM office operates on a regular 9-5, M-F schedule, but part-time arrangements are possible. A stipend is available based on educational experience. Academic credit may also be available.
TO APPLY:
Please send a resume and cover letter to Lee Hendelman at lhendelman@jewishmuseummd.org. To receive full consideration, applications should be submitted by May 10th.
