Detail of Lloyd Street Synagogue

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is the only museum in America with two historic synagogues, preserved and interpreted for the public. The Lloyd Street Synagogue (1845) and B'nai Israel Synagogue (1876) are situated in the heart of an historic Jewish neighborhood where they tell the stories of two great waves of Jewish immigrants to Baltimore, the second largest port of immigration in the United States. In these restored synagogues you can explore a matzoh oven, mikvehs (ritual baths), a magnificent hand-carved Torah Ark, women's balconies, and an active archaeology dig.

Come visit these Jewish treasures, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and learn about the roots of one of the country's leading Jewish communities.

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is a star attraction of Heritage Walk, a 3.2 mile walking trail through four fascinating centuries of American history. The trail connects 20 historic sites near the Jewish Museum of Maryland

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is also apart of the Greater Baltimore History Alliance. Visit their website at www.baltimoremuseums.org.
